Your top 10% of members visit almost five times as often as the average member

Data from 40,000+ loyalty cards: the top 10% of members visit about 24 times a year, almost five times the average. How to find and keep them.

Svetlofialový obrázok s veľkým modrým údajom 4,6× a bielou kartou s tromi pruhmi: najvernejších 10 % členov príde 24 dní v roku, najvernejších 20 % 17 dní a priemerný člen 5 dní.

Every business has regulars whose names the staff know by heart. We measured how often they really come. We looked at more than 40,000 loyalty members across 50+ businesses on Rewardly over a full year, from October 2025 to September 2026, and counted the days each member visited.

Why it matters for your revenue: every repeat visit is a sale. Rewardly's clients see 30% more repeat visits and 2.5 times higher customer value on average, and café Ráno in Bratislava reports 32% more revenue six months after moving to Rewardly.

The short answer

In the typical (median) business:

  • The top 10% of members visited about 24 days a year, roughly twice a month. That is almost five times (4.6 times) as often as the average member.
  • The top 20% visited about 17 days a year.
  • The top 1% visited about 58 days a year, more than once a week. One of these members brings in as many visits as eleven average members.
Bar chart of visit days per year in the typical business: average member 5.1, top 20% of members 16.6, top 10% 24.5 and top 1% 57.6.
Example in euros: with an average purchase of €5, an average member brings about €26 a year, a top 10% member about €120 and a top 1% member about €290.

At cafés, the best members come almost twice a week

  • Cafés and matcha bars: the top 10% visited about 40 days a year and the top 1% about 90 days, close to twice a week. The average member came 7.6 times.
  • Restaurants and bistros: the top 10% visited about 14 days a year and the top 1% about 30 days, more than twice a month. The average member came 3.6 times.
Grouped bar chart of visit days per year: cafés and matcha bars 7.6 for the average member and 40.0 for the top 10%, restaurants 3.6 and 14.2.

In both, the best tenth visits about four to five times as often as the average member. Your regulars are not a few lucky exceptions, they are a group you can see, count and look after.

Why these members matter so much

A member who comes in twice a month brings as many visits in a year as almost five average members. Counted in visits alone, one of them equals almost five average members, and they are already yours.

What to do with your top 10%

  1. Know who they are. Find your most frequent members and make sure the whole team recognises them.
  2. Reward the habit, not just the purchase. A VIP card, a small surprise on their 50th visit or early access to something new tells them you notice.
  3. Turn the next group into regulars. The members just below the top 10% already like you. A reward that is close and a timely reminder may help move them up.

How Rewardly helps

  1. See your top customers. Rewardly analytics shows your top customers, how often members return and their recent visits.
  2. Give them VIP status. Rewardly offers VIP membership cards for your best guests, right in their phone.
  3. Keep in touch. A push notification lands on the card in their phone, for news, rewards or a thank you.

About the data

  • Anonymised scans in the Rewardly scanner, October 2025 to September 2026. Only businesses with at least 200 members active in the period were included. No business is named or identifiable.
  • A visit is a day on which the member's card was scanned; several scans on one day count once. Members who joined during the year had less time to visit, which lowers the average member a little.
  • Only businesses that scan cards in the Rewardly app are included, leaving out accounts with gaps in tracking, one business with a different scanning practice and probable staff test cards. The data counts visits, not spending.
