Massage and spa gift vouchers: what to sell so people buy them

Massage and spa gift vouchers: three voucher types, ready wording, where to sell them and what to do when the recipient calls. For studios and salons.

A massage gift voucher sells best when the buyer grasps in seconds what they are giving and does not fear picking the wrong treatment. Three voucher types are enough: a specific treatment, a fixed amount and a package for two. Here is who each suits, how to word it and what to do when the recipient calls.

Massage gift vouchers: three types

  • A specific treatment, for example a 60 minute relaxing massage. For: a buyer who knows exactly what the recipient likes. Price change risk: high, the voucher covers the whole treatment even after a price rise. Write the treatment name and length on it, not the price.
  • A fixed amount, for example €50. For: a buyer who cannot decide, and a recipient who wants to choose. Price change risk: none, the value is fixed. Write the amount and a line saying it is valid for any treatment.
  • A package for two, for example two massages on the same day. For: a gift for a couple, parents or two friends. Price change risk: as for a treatment, only doubled. State that it is for two people and one appointment.

If people know one of your treatments by name, list it first. Buyers pick it faster than an amount.

Wording that reassures the buyer

Buyers worry that the treatment will not suit the recipient and that there will be no free slot. One sentence settles both. Suggested wording for the three types:

A €50 voucher for a treatment of your choice.
A 60 minute relaxing massage. If it is not quite right for you, we are happy to swap it for another treatment at the same price.
A massage for two on the same day, side by side, 2 × 60 minutes.

And a booking line every voucher needs:

Book your appointment at [phone] or [website] and quote your voucher number.

Only promise a swap if you really want to offer one. It is your rule, not an obligation.

Where buyers find your vouchers

A link in your Instagram profile. Followers buy straight from your profile without messaging you, even at midnight.

A post on your Google Business Profile. You can add a button with a link. People who find your studio in Search or Maps will see it.

A QR code at reception. A client leaving a massage knows best what she is giving, and buys on her phone while the feeling lasts.

When the recipient calls

When they book, note the voucher number next to the appointment in your diary. Redeem it only at the visit, once the treatment is done. If an amount voucher is worth more than the treatment, the rest stays for next time. This visit is your chance to win a new regular.

Selling online without extra work

Rewardly gives you your own voucher shop with your logo and colours, which you can embed on your website. Payments go to your own Stripe account, and Rewardly takes no commission on voucher sales. Buyers can send it as a gift with the recipient's name and a personal message. It arrives by email straight away and can be added to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet or printed as a PDF. At the counter you scan it in the Rewardly app or through a connected POS: Dotykačka, Storyous, Papaya POS or Portos. The amount can be spent at once or bit by bit, and your overview shows what you have sold, what has been redeemed and what is outstanding. Vouchers are part of the Professional plan.

Templates and when selling online pays off are covered in Gift voucher template or selling online: which do you need?. Before Christmas, use the six week voucher sales plan, and for packages of several massages, see 10 visit pass: paper punch card or on the phone?.
